Utility stainless steel sinks are widely used by doctors, restaurant, educational, and other industries. They have a wide variety of applications, but generally are used to process or something clean with water. Most sinks have a retainer service that will allow the sink to store water or liquid temporarily.

Utility stainless steel sinks have undergone a great deal of changes over the past century. There was little development of sinks, in general, to around the 1900s when the residential market began to build houses with running water. This stimulated the use of new and different for sinks to facilitate cleaning and bathing easier. Some of the first light sinks and corrosion resistant alloys were made of various metals such as copper, nickel, iron and manganese. Later, the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, led to its popularity as a sink, stove, and cookware. Ceramic Sinks also became popular in the 1900s and remain popular today.

The medical industry is one of the largest users of sinks stainless steel utility. Are used for a variety of tasks such as washing-up sinks surgeon and general cleaning sinks. Stainless steel is not porous and therefore resist or prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. It is also resistant to corrosion and will not rust or corrode. These properties make it an idea material for use in industry care.

The restaurant industry is another major user of stainless steel sinks useful. They use these sinks for the same reasons as the medical industry, because they are porous and will not corrode. In addition, the stainless steel is widely used for the production of cookware and utensils.

Institutional level utility stainless steel sinks are often made from 14 gauge stainless steel. This increased thickness provides the sink for a lasting durability and longevity decades. In addition, 304 stainless steel type is also very popular for service sinks. Type 304 stainless steel is used because it has a higher percentage of chromium that the standard 10% are found in other stainless steel. It also contains nickel, this metal, together with additional chromium type 304 provides corrosion resistance. Type 304 also resists most chemicals and are commonly found in food processing and restaurants. Most service sinks have a polished interior described as "satin combined, while the exterior is polished to a" brushed satin finish. " The satin finish on the outside tends to "hide" fingerprints.

Stainless steel sinks can be very useful easy to maintain and clean. Attention, however, are not indestructible and suitable are advised to ensure many years of use. Although stainless steel is very durable, there are cleaning solutions and products chemicals that damage. Routine cleaning should be done will warm water and mild soap, detergent, or ammonia. Use a soft cloth or sponge during the cleaning process to avoid any damage to the finish of stainless steel. To remove stubborn stains from stainless steel cleaner, stainless steel brush or stainless steel wool can be used. However, the manufacturer's instructions should be followed. Always clean and polished in the same direction as the polish lines the sink. What must be avoided with stainless steel sinks are prolonged contact with chlorides, such as lye and salts. Also avoid bromides (disinfectants), pesticides, photographic chemicals, and iodides in stainless steel. Products strongly acidic or caustic cleaning should be avoided because they can cause the steel stainless turn red.
