Calling all chefs, casual cooks, regular cooks, stay at home- mom cooks, college dorm cooks, all cookery lovers – come forward and share your interests with the cooking community by putting together an online cooking show.
Yes, you can do it and no, it is not difficult. All you need is your creativity, a video recorder and you are ready to roll.
Here are few tips that will help you to get started:
Remember this is a video show and has to have a visual appeal.
1. Decide on a simple recipe, you can do complicated ones that involve a lot of ingredients later, as you get more comfortable. Collect all your thoughts and ideas on a piece of paper- starting with a list and quantities of ingredients, vessels, spatulas, you think, would be required. Also keep in mind all the hardware that you would require, such as microwave, cooking top, oven etc.
2. It is also a good idea to have a prepared script. Nothing very complicated. Just a simple thing- that starts with something like ' Hello friends, I am so and so and today we will be making this dish.' Followed by a few words that will help you to remember what would you to like to tell your audience.
3. If you are not sure how to proceed and are not too comfortable with too much editing and fancy camera angles, then it is best to pre prepare all the ingredients in advance. Do your chopping, boiling or roasting before recording. For example if you are making pasta, than boil the pasta beforehand, prepare the sauce, meats and veggies.
4. Put everything in containers, it is best if they are a set as this will be a visual show. Lay out all the containers and spices neatly on the countertop. Also line up all the cooking utensils. If possible line everything close to the gas range you would be using for cooking. This will restrict your movement and the recording would be smoother.
5. After this you are ready to do the recording. You will need one more person or a tripod that holds your video camera. You are ready to roll. Stick as close to your script as possible. You can do the last step of cooking on camera. Going back to our pasta example, you can show your audience how to put together all the prepared ingredients and any other final additions, in a cauldron or any cooking vessel.
6. If your preparation will take a long time to cook then it is best to have a pre-prepared final dish to show your audience. A final appetizing visual is a must for any cookery show. Also you should provide a list of all ingredients and quantities that you used. One simple way to do it is printing/writing out everhthing you used and record it on camera.
