I would like to get a job as a prep cook but my experience and resume are kind of weak...?
Just 1 month of experience at a soup kitchen, and this is what I came up with. Can I get a job with this?:

I think you can get a job with limited experience, but you have to emphasize ALL of your responsibilities. My suggestion would be to revise the two lines of the particular work experience that you have here as follows:
"* Prepared and cut vegetables with industrial cutting and cleaning equipment.
* Readied beef and poultry for cooking."
And then you might consider addressing some of the following points with respect to this particular work experience:
* Did you follow a supervisor's directions? If you have, then you could add, "Followed directions with respect to preparation of meals."
* How many people did you serve at the soup kitchen? Soup kitchens can serve a lot of people and you could add a line to the effect of, "Helped prepare meals for ___ [dozen]/[hundred] people in [3][4][5] hours."
* What dishes did you prepare at the soup kitchen? "Beef", "poultry" and "vegetables" can all be more specific.
* Did you work on a team? Restaurants often look for people who are team players, and you might able to add a line to the effect of, "Worked effectively on a team of [__] people..."
You should also try to think of other types of work experience that you may have had that are related to the job of prep cook. What made you want to be a cook in the first place? Have you worked in any school cafeterias before? Do you have a large family, and if you do, have you prepared meals for them? Are there any particular dishes that you are skilled at preparing? You may want to address some of these questions in a cover letter.
In the meantime, if possible, I think that you should continue to work at the soup kitchen to gain more work experience. While you may not be able to land the positions that more experienced cooks can get, you may still be able to land some entry-level positions if you continue to accumulate experience and expand your search to include many different types of restaurants, from diners to chain restaurants.
